About Best Whip
Best Whip began in 2001 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with one goal: making whipped cream perfect. Twenty-five years later, it sells chargers, dispensers and parts to coffee shops, ice-cream parlours, restaurants and home cooks in more than 50 countries. It names Sydney as one of its international hubs.
Best Whip describes itself as a global leader in compressed gas for food. It makes everything needed to whip cream at home: the steel chargers, the aluminium dispensers and the small parts that keep them working. It also makes CO2 chargers for fizzy drinks and nitrogen chargers for nitro coffee.
Best Whip product lines
Each Best Whip line uses a different gas or size for a different kitchen job.
8 g N2O cream chargers
The standard Best Whip charger is a small steel bulb holding 8 g of food-grade nitrous oxide, the gas that whips cream. One charger suits a 0.5 L dispenser of cream. Best Whip sells them in boxes of 24 and 50, with larger multi-box cases for cafés. Best Whip Plus is its premium 8 g label. The Black Edition holds 9 g, one gram more than a standard bulb, for a firmer whip.
16 g chargers and CO2
For bigger dispensers, Best Whip makes 16 g N2O chargers, sold in packs of five and multi-pack cases. These need a dispenser or adapter built for the larger size. Best Whip also makes 8 g CO2 chargers. Carbon dioxide does not whip cream; it adds fizz instead. Use CO2 in a soda siphon for sparkling water, homemade soda or carbonated fruit.
Nitro 2 g chargers for coffee
Nitro chargers hold 2 g of nitrogen, a different gas from nitrous oxide. Poured through a dispenser into cold brew coffee, nitrogen creates the creamy, foamy head of a café nitro coffee. Best Whip suggests about 500 ml of cold brew per dispenser. Nitrogen does not dissolve into cream the way N2O does, so these chargers are not for whipped cream.
Kitchen cream dispensers
Best Whip's Kitchen dispensers have an aluminium body and a plastic or metal head. They come in 0.25 L (half pint), 0.5 L (pint) and 1 L (quart) sizes, in white, silver, red and black. The 0.25 L size suits small home batches, while the 1 L size suits a café counter. Fill with cold cream, screw on a charger and shake to whip.
Spare parts and decorating tips
Best Whip sells the parts that wear out, so a dispenser can last for years. These include replacement heads, cap gaskets, piston valves and charger holders. Decorating tips change the shape of the cream, from star swirls to tulip and straight nozzles. Injector tips let you fill pastries and doughnuts, and a tip adapter fits other brands' nozzles. Keep a spare gasket on hand.
How a cream charger works
A cream charger is a small, sealed steel bulb filled with gas under pressure. You pour cold cream into a dispenser, screw the head on tight, then fit a charger into the holder. A pin pierces the bulb and releases the gas into the cream.
Nitrous oxide dissolves into the fat in the cream. When you press the lever, the cream rushes out through the nozzle and the gas expands, whipping it instantly. Best Whip says this gives about four times the volume of the cream you started with. Only the cream you dispense gets whipped; the rest stays sealed in the fridge until you need it.
Cream, desserts and party food
A dispenser makes light work of desserts. Top pavlovas, scones, hot chocolate and Irish coffee, or flavour the cream with vanilla, cocoa or liqueur before charging. Chefs also use N2O to make savoury foams and to infuse flavours into oils or spirits in minutes.
For a hen's night, a charged dispenser of cream lets you dress up cupcakes, fruit platters and cocktails as you go. our guide to planning a bachelorette party has more food and drink ideas, and our hen's night party gifts cover the rest of the table. Whipped cream also has a long history in food play, and our sex games range includes dessert-themed games for a date night in.
Materials and build
Best Whip chargers are steel bulbs, which are recyclable once empty. Its dispensers have aluminium bodies with plastic or metal heads, silicone gaskets and replaceable valves. Aluminium is light and does not rust, but it should be hand-washed, as dishwashers can dull and pit it.
After use, release any leftover gas, unscrew the head and rinse every part in warm water. Push a small brush through the valve and nozzle, and check the gasket for cracks. A worn gasket is the most common cause of a dispenser that will not hold pressure.
Getting a good whip every time
Most problems with whipped cream come down to temperature and fat. Chill the dispenser and the cream before you start, as warm cream turns runny. Use cream with at least 30% fat; light or thickened cream with gums can whip unevenly.
Add sugar or flavourings before charging, and stir them in well so they do not block the nozzle. After charging, shake the dispenser four or five times, then test a little. If it is too soft, give it a few more shakes rather than adding a second charger straight away. Store the dispenser upright in the fridge.

Choosing your first Best Whip
For home use, start with a 0.5 L dispenser and a box of 8 g N2O chargers. That size whips enough cream for a family dessert and fits in the fridge door. Choose the 0.25 L size if you only need cream for coffee, and the 1 L size for parties or a café.
Always use cold cream with at least 30% fat, and never overfill past the line on the dispenser. If you want to try nitro coffee, add a box of Nitro 2 g chargers. You can also look at Assist, the other culinary N2O brand we carry.
Who Best Whip suits — and who should look elsewhere
Best Whip suits home bakers, coffee lovers and small cafés who want fresh whipped cream on demand. It suits cooks who want spare parts from the same brand as their dispenser.
Look elsewhere if you only need cream once a year, as a hand whisk or a can of ready-made cream is simpler. These products are not sold to anyone under 18, and they are not for any use except food and drink.
Important: legal and safe use. Cream chargers are for food use only. Never inhale nitrous oxide. Inhaling it can cause loss of consciousness, burns from the cold gas, falls, nerve damage and death. You must be 18 or over to buy. In South Australia, sales are banned between 10 pm and 5 am. NSW has announced tighter retail rules from November 2026, covering cylinder size, daily limits and delivery. Store chargers away from heat and children, and recycle empty steel bulbs. |
