About Durex
Lionel Alfred Jackson founded the London Rubber Company in 1915 and registered the Durex name in 1929. The name is said to stand for Durability, Reliability and Excellence. In 1932, working with Polish rubber technology student Lucian Landau, the company began making its own latex condoms. Automated production lines with air testing followed in the early 1950s.
The London Rubber Company later merged into SSL International, and Reckitt became the owner in 2010. In 2014, Reckitt bought the K-Y lubricant brand from Johnson & Johnson, putting K-Y alongside Durex. Today Durex condoms are made in several countries and sold around the world.
Durex lines and categories
Durex organises its range by feel and material. Here is how it fits together.
Invisible
Invisible is Durex's thinnest latex line. It comes in Close Fit at 52 mm, Original Fit at 56 mm and Wide Fit at 57 mm. There are also Extra Lube and Extra Thin Sensitive versions. Each is pre-lubricated and electronically tested. Invisible suits couples who want the closest feel without moving away from latex. Choose the fit that matches your girth.
Fetherlite and Thin Feel
Fetherlite is Durex's long-running thin latex range, now sold as Thin Feel in many markets. Durex describes Fetherlite Thin Feel as 20% thinner than its standard condoms, with a 52 mm width and a straight-walled shape. It sits between Originals and Invisible, giving extra sensitivity at a familiar fit. It is a good next step for anyone who finds Originals a little thick. Each pack is pre-lubricated.
Intense Next Gen
Intense Next Gen is a latex-free condom made from nitrile, a material Durex calls BodyFeel. It moulds to the body and transfers body heat well, so it feels warmer than latex. Sizes run from 53 mm Close Fit and 56 mm Regular to a 61 mm XL. It is a strong option among latex-free condoms for people with latex allergies.
Real Feel
Real Feel is made from polyisoprene, a synthetic rubber that contains no natural latex proteins. It feels soft and stretchy, closer to skin than standard latex. Real Feel condoms come pre-lubricated with a non-spermicidal lube. They suit people with latex sensitivity who still want a familiar, flexible feel. They are a popular switch for couples who find latex irritating. Use water-based or silicone lube with them.
Pleasure Me, Climax and flavoured condoms
Pleasure Me condoms have ribs and dots and an anatomical shape for extra stimulation. Climax adds ribs, dots and a mint stimulating gel. Fruity Fun packs strawberry, apple, orange and banana flavours for oral sex. Originals are the classic 56 mm Easy-On shape with a teat end and smooth lubricant. Use flavoured condoms for oral sex only unless the pack says otherwise.
Durex Play lubes and gels
Durex Play covers lubricants and massage gels. Play Feel is a light, non-sticky water-based gel, while Play Warming and Sweet Strawberry add warmth and flavour. The 2-in-1 Massage Gel doubles as a massage oil and lube, and Naturals Intimate Gel uses natural ingredients. All of these are water-based lubes, so they are safe with latex condoms. Patch test warming gels first.
K-Y
K-Y joined Durex at Reckitt in 2014. Our range includes K-Y Personal Lubricant, a clear, odourless and pH-balanced water-based gel, sold in a tray of three 50 g tubes. K-Y Yours + Mine pairs a warming formula with a tingling one for couples. K-Y is a familiar choice for everyday comfort and dryness. It is water-based, so it rinses off easily and is safe with condoms.
Durex Play vibrators and sex toys
Durex also makes pleasure products under Durex Play and Intense. The Vibe & Tease is a rechargeable G-spot vibrator with a detachable teaser tip and seven speeds. There is a vibrating cock ring, a silicone two-plug anal set, a textured stroker sleeve and the Intense Delight bullet. These simple, affordable pieces suit first-time buyers. Add a water-based lube for comfort.

Choosing the right size
Condom width matters more than length. A condom that is too tight can feel uncomfortable and may break, while one that is too loose can slip. Durex's Close Fit sizes, at 52 to 53 mm, suit a slimmer girth. Regular sizes sit at 56 mm, and Wide Fit and XL run from 57 to 61 mm.
If you are unsure, try a regular size first and move up or down. Many couples keep two sizes on hand. Browse our full range of condoms to compare other brands and widths.
Latex or latex-free?
Latex is thin, strong and the most widely used condom material. Some people have a latex allergy, which can cause itching, redness or swelling. Durex offers two latex-free options: Real Feel, made from polyisoprene, and Intense Next Gen, made from nitrile.
Both protect against pregnancy and STIs when used correctly. If you avoid animal products, read our guide to vegan-friendly condoms. For protection during hand play, our article on love gloves is worth a look.
Looking after your condoms
Condoms last longest when kept cool and dry. Avoid wallets, car glove boxes and anywhere hot or sharp. Check the packet for tears and the expiry date before use, and open it with your fingers, not your teeth. Our condom care and storage guide has more tips.
Pairing condoms with lube
Most Durex condoms come pre-lubricated, but extra lube makes sex more comfortable and lowers the risk of a condom tearing. Add a little water-based lube to the outside of the condom, not the inside, so it does not slip off. Durex Play Feel and K-Y are both safe with every Durex condom.
For anal sex, always use plenty of lube, as the body does not lubricate itself there. Reapply as needed and check the condom from time to time.
Who Durex suits — and who should look elsewhere
Durex suits almost everyone who wants reliable condoms in a wide choice of sizes, materials and textures. It suits couples who like to pair condoms with lube and simple vibrators from one brand. The latex-free options suit people with allergies.
Look elsewhere if you want premium, high-power vibrators or large specialist sex toys. Durex Play's pleasure products are simple and affordable rather than advanced.
Please read — safety first. Check the expiry date and packet before use, and use a new condom every time and for every type of sex. Use only water-based or silicone-based lube with latex condoms; oil-based products such as baby oil or massage oils can weaken latex. If you have a latex allergy, choose Real Feel or Intense Next Gen. Condoms greatly reduce, but do not remove, the risk of STIs and pregnancy. Store condoms away from heat, sharp objects and wallets. Use only plugs with a flared base for anal play, and wash sex toys after every use. This information is general in nature and is not medical advice. If you have a health condition or ongoing discomfort, stop use and speak with a qualified health professional. |
