About Vibratex

Harold and Suzi Spielberg founded Vibratex in 1983. Suzi, who grew up in Japan, wanted to bring bright, playful Japanese-style vibrators to an American market full of plain, flesh-toned designs. Early products were made in Japan and packed in the family warehouse.

In 1986 the company launched the Rabbit Pearl, named after their daughter Shay. In 1996 Shay and her husband Dan Martin took over management, bringing science backgrounds and a focus on body-safe materials. Magic Wand: the iconic massager

Vibratex has been the exclusive importer and distributor of the Magic Wand since 2000, under a formal deal with Hitachi. In 2013 it persuaded Hitachi to keep making the wand when the Hitachi name was dropped. The range now covers the Original, Rechargeable, Plus, Mini, Micro and Waterproof models. Rabbit Pearl: the rabbit that started it all

Rabbit Pearl launched in 1986 and created the rabbit vibrator category. It combined rotating pearls in the shaft with a vibrating rabbit-shaped arm for the clitoris. It was named after Shay Spielberg, born in the year of the rabbit. After it appeared on Sex and the City in 1998, Vibratex’s sales rose more than 700%. The original Rabbit Pearl is no longer made.

Rabbit Habit: the modern classic

Rabbit Habit is Vibratex’s current rabbit, and its name is a registered US trademark. It pairs a vibrating shaft with tumbling pearls and a rabbit arm for blended internal and clitoral play. Black Pearl: prostate stimulator

Black Pearl is Vibratex’s prostate stimulator, and the company registered the name as a trademark in 2014. Shay Martin lists it among Vibratex’s best sellers. It brings the brand’s pearl design to P-spot play. As with any anal sex toy, go slowly and use plenty of water-based lube. Choose a design with a flared base so it cannot slip inside.

Bullets: Mini Magic, Luv It and Water Dancer

How Vibratex shaped the rabbit vibrator

Before the Rabbit Pearl, most vibrators were simple shafts or realistic shapes. Vibratex combined two ideas in one body. Rotating pearls inside the shaft gave internal sensation, while a small rabbit-shaped arm rested on the clitoris. The playful shape also fitted the company’s aim of moving away from realistic, flesh-toned designs.

The result gave internal and clitoral stimulation at the same time, which many people find more satisfying than either alone. After Sex and the City, nearly every brand released its own rabbit. The category now includes thrusting, rotating and air-pulse versions, but they all trace back to that 1986 design.

Small range, careful testing

Vibratex deliberately keeps its range small. Shay Martin has said the company does not need a constant stream of new launches. It prefers to focus on quality, customer service and a few proven designs. Half of its time goes on the Magic Wand.

The company sells both silicone and non-silicone products, and says it tests its materials extensively to make sure they are body-safe in their final form. That focus has kept classic designs like the Rabbit Habit on sale for decades. It also means fewer, better-tested products for buyers to choose between.

Caring for your Vibratex

Clean every vibrator after use with warm water and a little mild soap, or a sex toy cleaner. Rinse well and let it air dry before storing. Keep battery models dry around the battery cap, and take the batteries out if you will not use the vibrator for a while. Charge rechargeable models fully before first use.

Store silicone and vinyl pieces separately, as some materials can react when they touch. A cool, dark drawer keeps colours bright for longer. Elastomer sleeves should be dried fully, then lightly dusted with cornflour to keep them soft.
