About SPUNK Lube
SPUNK Lube is made by D. Enterprises, the trading name of Jeff Darga in Palmdale, California. Darga owns the SPUNK trade mark for personal lubricants.
The company says it released STR8cam Lube on 3 February 2010. It was a water and silicone hybrid designed to look realistic on camera, and many adult studios used it.
In 2011 the formula was renamed SPUNK Lube. The range later grew to Pure Silicone and Natural, plus the hand-poured Cyber SPUNK.
SPUNK Lube lines
These SPUNK formulas each have a different base and feel.
SPUNK Hybrid
SPUNK Hybrid is the original formula and the brand's best seller. It blends water with silicone for a creamy white look and longer glide than water alone. A splash of water or saliva brings it back to life when it starts to fade. It washes off with water and does not stain sheets, says the brand. Ingredients include propylene glycol and methylparaben, so it is glycerin-free but not paraben-free.
SPUNK Pure Silicone
SPUNK Pure Silicone is a clear, 100% silicone lube made from dimethicone and related silicones. It has no water, glycerin, parabens or preservatives. Because nothing evaporates, it stays slick for a long time and works in the shower, bath or hot tub. A few drops go a long way. Test it on a hidden spot before using it with silicone sex toys.
SPUNK Natural
SPUNK Natural uses just two ingredients: organic avocado oil and organic virgin coconut oil. It is vegan, silicone-free and doubles as a massage oil. Oil does not evaporate, so it lasts longer than water-based lube. It is safe with silicone and glass sex toys and with polyurethane or nitrile condoms. Never use it with latex condoms, as oil weakens latex.
SPUNK Pink
SPUNK Pink is a tinted formula listed as water-based, with the same reactivating glide as the core range. It gives a pink look in place of the classic white. The brand no longer lists it on its own website, so stock may be limited. Check each listing for the base and ingredients before you buy, and patch test any new lube first.
Cyber SPUNK
Cyber SPUNK is the brand's step beyond lube. It is a hand-poured product in platinum-cured silicone, with medium firmness, sold with a full-size bottle of SPUNK Hybrid. Each piece is poured by hand, so no two finishes match exactly. SPUNK says Hybrid is safe with platinum-cured silicone. As with any silicone, test a small area first. Wash it with warm soapy water after each use.
What makes a hybrid lube different
A hybrid lube mixes water with a little silicone. The water makes it easy to rinse, and the silicone keeps it slick for longer.
Many hybrids look creamy or milky, which is where SPUNK's realistic look comes from. Our ranges of hybrid lubricants and hybrid lubes set SPUNK beside other water and silicone blends.
Hybrid, silicone or natural?
Hybrid is the all-rounder: long glide, water clean-up and a creamy look. SPUNK suggests it as the best place to start.
Pure Silicone lasts longest and works in water. Our silicone lubes collection covers more silicone choices.
Natural is the simplest, with just two plant oils, and it doubles as massage oil. Our oil-based lubes collection covers other oil formulas, which suit non-latex play.
Realistic lube and cum play
SPUNK Hybrid is popular for cum play and fantasy scenes because of its white, creamy look. It gives the visual without any of the health risks of real fluids.
Our explainer on the term gokkun covers one cum play fetish from adult film. Our article on bodily fluids and fluid bonding looks at why fluids carry so much stigma, and what fluid bonding involves.
Using SPUNK with condoms and sex toys
SPUNK Hybrid and Pure Silicone are safe with latex condoms. SPUNK Natural is not, because oil weakens latex.
SPUNK says Hybrid is safe with platinum-cured silicone sex toys. Silicone can still react with some cheaper silicone, so test a hidden spot first.
Glycerin-free, but check the label
None of the SPUNK formulas list glycerin, which some people find irritating. Pure Silicone and Natural also leave out parabens and preservatives.
SPUNK Hybrid does contain methylparaben, a common preservative, and propylene glycol. People sensitive to either should choose Pure Silicone or Natural.
How much lube to use
Start with a coin-sized amount and add more as you go. Too little lube causes friction, which can lead to soreness or small tears.
For anal play, use more than you think you need, as the anus makes no lubrication of its own. With Hybrid, a few drops of water revive the glide before you reach for the bottle.
For hand play and massage, a little SPUNK Natural spreads a long way. Warm it in your palms first.
Choosing a bottle size
SPUNK sells bottles from 59 ml for travel up to 3.8 litres. Larger sizes suit heavy users, couples and anyone who uses lube for massage.
A small bottle is the best way to try a formula. Once you find a favourite, step up to a pump bottle for easier one-handed use.
Storing and cleaning up
Keep bottles closed and away from heat and direct sun. Check the expiry date, and replace any lube that smells or looks different.
Hybrid washes off with warm water. Pure Silicone and Natural need soap and warm water, and both can leave floors and showers slippery.

Choosing your first SPUNK
For a first bottle, SPUNK Hybrid is the most versatile choice. It works with condoms and most sex toys, and it rinses off with water.
For shower play or long sessions, choose Pure Silicone. For a plant-based lube that doubles as massage oil, choose Natural and skip latex condoms.
Who SPUNK suits, and who should look elsewhere
SPUNK suits anyone who wants a long-lasting hybrid with a realistic look. It is also popular with gay men and with couples who enjoy cum play.
Look elsewhere if you need a paraben-free hybrid or a flavoured lube. Our wider range of specialty lubricants covers warming, flavoured and other special formulas.
Please read — safety first. Patch test any new lube on the inner arm first, and stop if it itches or burns. SPUNK Hybrid contains methylparaben and propylene glycol, so check the label if you react to either. Never use SPUNK Natural with latex condoms. Spot test silicone and hybrid lube on silicone sex toys first. Lube does not protect against STIs or pregnancy, and a realistic look is no substitute for safer sex. Wipe up silicone and oil spills, as floors become slippery. This information is general in nature and is not medical advice. If you have a health condition or ongoing discomfort, stop use and speak with a qualified health professional. |
