Memème started in Dnipro, Ukraine, as founder Vladislav Guristrimba's answer to plain everyday underwear. Unhooked Magazine reports that his wife suggested the idea in 2018. Underlines Magazine dates the brand's launch to 2019 and describes it as wearable art for everyday comfort.

The brand built its own production line. Unhooked reports that the fabric took nine months to develop in Turkey. Printing happens at the brand's own factory in Dnipro. The factory closed when the war began in 2022, then reopened. During that time, the founder volunteered at a humanitarian warehouse in Romania.
