Kama Sutra makes kissable body care, also called romance or foreplay products: warming oils, flavoured lubricants, body powders, massage candles and gift kits. The company began in California in 1969 with one product, Oil of Love.

Why choose Kama Sutra Kama Sutra has made kissable body care since 1969, starting with Oil of Love. Its range covers every step of foreplay: powder, oil, glide, candle and scent. The water-based lines are condom-safe, and several are sugar-free or glycerin-free. Products come in gift boxes and travel kits, so they suit anniversaries and weekends away. The company still owns its KAMA SUTRA trademark, first filed in October 1969.

About Kama Sutra
Joseph C. Bolstad founded The Kama Sutra Company in 1969 with his business partner, Hal Hauser. Their first product was Oil of Love, a body oil for lovers, and the company filed its KAMA SUTRA trademark for body oil that October. Honey Dust, massage candles, flavoured glides and kits followed over the next five decades.
The company trades through Kamsut, Inc. in Moorpark, California. Bolstad died in 2019 aged 84, and his wife, Marla Lee, became president, with their sons working in the business. The brand takes its name from the ancient Indian text on love, and its vibrator line, RHYTHM, is named after Indian dances.
More than fifty years on, the range still centres on the bedroom ritual rather than the sex toy. Most products are made to be kissed, tasted, smelt or massaged in. Many come in matching scents, so a candle, oil and powder can share one fragrance.
Kama Sutra lines
Kama Sutra gives each product family its own name. Here is what each one does.
Oil of Love: the original warming oil
Oil of Love is the product Kama Sutra started with in 1969. Today it is a water-based foreplay lubricant that warms when you blow on it. It comes in flavours such as Coconut Pineapple, Vanilla Creme and Strawberry Dreams, in small 22 ml bottles. It is kissable and non-staining, so it suits massage and oral play. Oil of Love also appears in most of the brand’s gift and travel kits.
Honey Dust: the kissable body powder
Honey Dust is a fine, honey-scented body powder that comes with a handmade feather applicator. You dust it over the skin, then kiss or lick it off, so it adds both scent and taste to foreplay. It comes in sizes from 28 g to 200 g and flavours including Sweet Honeysuckle and Coconut Pineapple. Keep it away from the eyes and genitals, as it is a body powder, not a lube.
Divine Nectars: flavoured water-based glide
Divine Nectars is Kama Sutra’s kissable lubricant for oral play. It is one of the few flavoured lubes that is both sugar-free and paraben-free. It comes in 150 ml bottles and smaller sizes, in flavours such as Raspberry, Strawberry Dreams and Coconut Pineapple. It is water-based, so it works with latex condoms and all sex toy materials. Divine Nectars suits couples who want one glide for oral sex and intercourse.
Love Liquid and Pleasure Balm: everyday glides
Love Liquid is Kama Sutra’s plain water-based lubricant. The Sensual version is free from colours, fragrances and glycerin, so it suits sensitive skin. Pleasure Balm is a menthol gel in a 50 ml bottle that gives a cool, tingling feel and is kissable. Both are water-based and work with condoms and sex toys. Our article on five ways to use lube shows how a plain glide can do more than ease penetration.
Sex Magnet: pheromone-scented oils and candles
Sex Magnet is Kama Sutra’s fragrance line. It includes roll-on oils, a body spray, massage oils and massage candles in Vanilla, Blue Lotus and Leather. The brand calls it a pheromone line. Evidence that human pheromones affect attraction is limited, so treat it as a perfume you enjoy. The Sex Magnet massage candle burns for about 15 hours, so it works as one of your scented candles long before you pour the oil.
Kama Sutra massage candles
Kama Sutra massage candles melt into a warm oil that you pour straight onto the skin from a built-in spout. The IGNITE candle is about 170 g and blends coconut oil, shea butter and vitamin E, in Coconut Pineapple and Strawberry Dreams. Smaller 2 oz and 1.7 oz candles come in scents such as Vanilla Creme and No. 69. Unlike ordinary massage candles, these are made by the brand that started kissable body care, and they pair with its oils.
Naturals, Aromatics and Love Oil: massage oils
Kama Sutra makes three massage oil lines. Naturals blends soy, grape seed and almond oils, in scents such as Coconut Pineapple and Island Passion Berry. Aromatics adds essential oils, in Sweet Almond and Harmony Blend. Love Oil is a vegan blend of organic coconut, avocado and seabuckthorn oils in a 59 ml pump. Oils are not condom-safe, so use them for massage, not with latex.
Intensify Plus and Lip Fetish: arousal and lip products
Intensify Plus is a small 12 ml gel for women, sold as an arousal gel in warming and cooling versions. The warming version lists L-arginine, damiana leaf and saw palmetto extracts. Lip Fetish is a tingling lip gloss in Wild Raspberry, which warms, and Cool Mint, which cools. Both are small enough to carry in a handbag. Patch test any tingling product first, and stop if it stings.
Lovers Body Paint and bath treats
Lovers Body Paint is an edible chocolate paint, such as Dark Chocolate Raspberry, in a 200 g jar with a brush. You paint designs on each other and lick them off. Kama Sutra also makes bath products, such as Treasures of the Sea bath salts, which turn the water blue and come with a seashell scoop. Keep body paint away from the vagina, as sugar can upset its balance.
Naughty Notes: greeting cards with extras
Naughty Notes are cheeky greeting cards that come packed with small Kama Sutra products. A card can include massage oil, warming foreplay oil, water-based lube and four position cards. Messages range from birthday wishes to bolder lines. Our guide to Kama Sutra sex positions pairs well with the position cards inside. They make an easy gift for a partner who already has everything.
Kama Sutra gift and travel kits
Kama Sutra kits bundle its products in gift boxes and travel bags. The Weekender Kit holds Oil of Love, Honey Dust, Pleasure Balm, Love Liquid and Sweet Almond massage oil, in travel sizes. Other kits include the Sweet Heart Box, Pure Heart, Getaway, Lovers Travel Kit, Love Lights Candle Kit and the cocktail-themed kits. Kits are the easiest way to try several products before buying a full size.
RHYTHM by Kama Sutra: silicone vibrators
RHYTHM by Kama Sutra is the brand’s vibrator line, with models named after Indian dances. Lavani is a three-motor rabbit with 7 rhythms and 4 intensities. Dandiya and Chari are dual-motor G-spot vibrators. Bhangra is an 11.25-inch wand with three attachments, and Natya is a bendable remote vibrator. Our 14 sex toys to make sex sizzle article shows how vibrators like these fit into couples’ play.
Building a foreplay routine
Kama Sutra products are designed to layer. Start with a bath or a lit massage candle to set the mood. Use the melted candle oil or a Naturals oil for a full-body massage. Then switch to Honey Dust for a lighter, kissable touch. When things move to oral sex or intercourse, swap to a water-based glide such as Divine Nectars or Love Liquid. Oils and latex do not mix. A warming drop of Oil of Love works at any stage.
Oils, glides and condoms
The most important thing to know about the range is which products are oils. Naturals, Aromatics, Love Oil and the melted candles are oil-based. They feel rich for massage, but oil weakens latex condoms. Oil of Love, Divine Nectars, Love Liquid and Pleasure Balm are water-based. These are safe with condoms and with silicone sex toys, and they rinse off with water. If you use condoms, keep the oils for massage and switch to a water-based glide before sex.
Flavoured or plain glide?
Flavoured glides such as Divine Nectars and Oil of Love are made for the mouth as much as the body. They taste good, which makes oral sex more relaxed for many people. Plain glides such as Love Liquid have no taste or scent, so they suit long sessions and sensitive skin. Many couples keep one of each: a flavoured bottle for foreplay and a plain one for intercourse and sex toys.
Gifting Kama Sutra
Much of the range is designed to be given. The kits come in boxes and bags that need no extra wrapping. The Naughty Notes cards put a message and a small gift in one envelope. For a first gift, choose something external and low-risk, such as Honey Dust or a massage candle, rather than a vibrator. For an anniversary, a larger kit such as Pure Heart or the Love Lights Candle Kit sets up a whole evening.

Choosing your first Kama Sutra
If you want one product to try, Oil of Love is the classic. For oral play, choose Divine Nectars in a flavour you like. For a romantic night in, a massage candle does two jobs at once. If you cannot decide, a kit such as the Weekender lets you try the main lines in travel sizes. For a gift, a Naughty Notes card adds a laugh along with the products.
Who Kama Sutra suits — and who should look elsewhere
Kama Sutra suits couples who enjoy slow foreplay, massage and gifts. It also suits anyone who wants flavoured or warming glides in pretty packaging.
It is less suited to people who want a plain, medical-style lube for long sessions, as most lines are flavoured or scented. People with very sensitive skin should start with Sensual Love Liquid, which has no fragrance or glycerin. Anyone who wants a high-powered vibrator range should look past RHYTHM to a dedicated sex toy brand.
Please read — safety first. Patch test new oils, powders and gels on your inner arm first. Oils, massage candles and body paint are not condom-safe, so keep them away from latex. Test melted candle oil on your wrist before pouring it on a partner, and never leave a lit candle alone. Keep powder, paint and flavoured products away from the vagina, as sugar and powder can cause irritation. Stop using any warming, cooling or tingling product if it stings or burns.
