J-Lube is a powdered lubricant concentrate, also called powder lube or fisting gel, that you mix with water to the thickness you want. Jorgensen Laboratories, a Colorado veterinary supplier, makes it for animal births, and adult buyers use it for long, heavy play.

About Jorgensen Laboratories

Jorgensen Laboratories began in 1965 in the basement of Dr Irvin Jorgensen’s home. He was a Danish-trained vet who had practised in Denmark and Canada before moving to the United States. The business first imported large-animal instruments that US vets could not easily buy. It now trades as JorVet from Loveland, Colorado, and supplies vets across North America and beyond.

The company is still run by the Jorgensen family, with Dr Norm Jorgensen as president and CEO. In March 2022 it took on a minority investment partner to fund growth. J-Lube is one of its oldest products. Jorgensen says it invented J-Lube and still makes it, and it claims first use of the name in 1980. Each bottle carries the J-109 item code and the Jorgensen seal on a red and white label.

J-Lube: the powder concentrate

J-Lube is a dry powder sold in a 284 g (10 oz) shaker bottle, item J-109. The label calls it a hand lubricant concentrate for veterinarian use. You either rub it onto wet hands like a powdered soap or stir it into water to make a liquid gel. Jorgensen says one bottle makes six to eight US gallons, roughly 23 to 30 litres. J-Jelly and OB Lube: Jorgensen’s ready-mixed lubricants

Jorgensen also makes two lubricants that need no mixing. J-Jelly is a methylcellulose gel sold in an 8 oz flask and a one-gallon jug. It is a different formula to J-Lube, with no polyethylene polymer. OB Lube comes in 1 oz single-use packets, packed twelve to a case. Both sit in Jorgensen’s obstetrical range and carry the same veterinary-use-only label as J-Lube. They show where J-Lube comes from: a range built for vets, farmers and animal births, not the bedroom.

How J-Lube mixes

J-Lube starts as a white powder. Stirred into water, the polymer swells and turns into a clear, slippery gel. A small pinch in a cup of warm water gives a thin glide, and more powder gives a thick gel that clings. Mix a little at a time and stir or shake well, because lumps form if you add too much at once.

The gel has no preservatives, so treat it like fresh food. Our blog advises mixing in a clean container, keeping it in the fridge and throwing out any batch older than three weeks. Many people mix only what they need just before play. Others keep a pre-mixed bottle ready in the fridge.

Why adult buyers choose a veterinary lube

J-Lube was made to give vets enough slip to reach inside a large animal. That same long-lasting, high-volume slip is why it is known as a fisting lube. The label lists polyethylene polymer at 25% and a dispersing agent at 75%. There is no glycerin, oil or silicone in the powder. Once mixed, J-Lube washes off skin, sheets and sex toys with warm water. The label adds that a little table salt helps lift the last traces, because salt breaks the gel down. Store the dry powder sealed and away from moisture, or it will clump in the bottle.

Start with a small test batch, not a full jug. Stir a pinch of powder into a cup of warm water, wait a minute, and feel the gel. Add powder for thickness or water to thin it. Compared with ready-made water-based lubes, it takes more effort but gives you far more control.

Who J-Lube suits — and who should look elsewhere
