About IDW Games

IDW Games is the tabletop label of IDW Publishing, the comics publisher behind long-running Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Transformers titles. IDW announced the label in October 2013 with Pandasaurus Games, an Austin board game publisher. The first big-box games followed from 2014.

The plan was simple. IDW owned or licensed many comic worlds, and those worlds could become games. The label began with Kill Shakespeare and 30 Days of Night. It went on to publish Machi Koro in English, original strategy games and large Kickstarter campaigns.

In 2021, IDW’s quarterly report listed tabletop games as a line of business it had exited. Existing Kickstarter games were still delivered to backers. In late 2025, IDW Games announced its return with Godzilla: The Roleplaying Game.

IDW Games lines

IDW Games released games across several formats. Here are its main lines and titles.

Bed, Wed, Dead: A Game of Dirty Decisions

Bed, Wed, Dead is the IDW Games title we carry. Designed by Nate Murray and released in 2016, it is a 17+ party game for 2 to 10 players. The box holds 300 Dirty Decision cards, 30 Legacy cards and three dice. Players bluff, bet and defend their choices in about 20 minutes. It sits with our sex games for grown-up nights in.

IDW Adventures series

The Adventures series is IDW Games’ scenario-driven miniatures system. It grew out of TMNT: Shadows of the Past, designed by Kevin Wilson. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures followed in 2019, with Change is Constant and City Fall on Kickstarter. The games play co-operatively or with one player against the rest. Each volume added new miniatures, map tiles and comics. Fans also kept the system alive with their own scenarios.

Batman: The Animated Series Adventures

Batman: The Animated Series Adventures brought the Adventures system to Gotham. Shadow of the Bat launched on Kickstarter in early 2020 and became one of the brand’s biggest campaigns. Players take on Batman and his allies against classic villains from the animated series. It suits fans who want a long, story-led campaign with detailed miniatures. The campaign raised more than US$1.6 million, the brand’s largest total we could verify.

Machi Koro

Machi Koro is the city-building dice game by Masao Suganuma, first published in Japan in 2012. IDW Games and Pandasaurus Games released it in English. IDW once called it its best-selling game. Expansions such as Millionaire’s Row and a Deluxe Edition followed in 2015. Later releases such as Machi Koro Legacy came from Pandasaurus Games. Players roll dice to earn coins, then buy buildings to grow their town.

Hobby and strategy games

IDW Games also published original hobby games without a licence. Roar: King of the Pride is a worker-placement game for 3 to 6 players, in which lion prides fight for territory. Galaxy Hunters by Daniel Alves mixes worker placement with mech-versus-mutant combat. IDW also released an English edition of Fire & Axe: A Viking Saga. These games suit players who want deeper strategy than a party game.

Kill Shakespeare and 30 Days of Night

These were the first games announced for IDW Games in 2013. Kill Shakespeare is a semi-cooperative game based on the comic series, where Shakespeare’s heroes face his villains. 30 Days of Night is a survival horror game based on the vampire comic. Both showed the plan to turn IDW comics into big-box games. Pandasaurus Games handled design, production and distribution for these early releases.

Licensed card and board games

Beyond comics, IDW Games licensed film, television and arcade worlds. Titles included games based on The X-Files, Planet of the Apes, Back to the Future and The Godfather. Atari classics such as Missile Command and Asteroids were also reworked as board games. Most of these titles are now out of print. Collectors still trade them second-hand, so check the edition and contents first.

Godzilla: The Roleplaying Game

Godzilla: The Roleplaying Game marks the brand’s return. It is written by Jervis Johnson, Gav Thorpe and Mark A. Latham, all known for their Warhammer work. The game uses standard playing cards instead of dice. Its Kickstarter ran in March 2026 and passed its goal within hours. Backer copies are expected in 2027. IDW has said it hopes to add more licensed games.

How Bed, Wed, Dead plays

Bed, Wed, Dead takes a classic party question and gives it rules. Each round, players face three names on the cards. You decide who you would bed, who you would wed and who you would kill off. Then you defend your choice to the group.

The dice add a twist, and betting and bluffing keep everyone talking. The box also includes 30 Legacy cards alongside the main deck. Because there is no board, it sets up in seconds. It travels well to parties and weekends away.

A game for adults only

The game is rated 17+ because of its mature themes. The cards are crude, rude and built to make people laugh. That makes it a good fit for adult board games nights, but not for family game time. Keep it on a high shelf if you have kids at home.
