About Empowered Products
Empowered Products was founded in March 2002 by Scott Fraser, and its first product went on sale in 2003. The company is based in Las Vegas, Nevada, where it has bottled and labelled its lubes in-house, per its annual reports. Its annual reports to the US Securities and Exchange Commission name Fraser as founder, president and CEO.
The Gun Oil name has a well-told origin story. The brand says Fraser served as a Marine Corps platoon commander in the 1990–91 Gulf War. Stationed in the Saudi desert, his unit cleaned their rifles with a silicone lubricant nicknamed gun oil. The troops soon found a more personal use for it. After leaving the Marines, Fraser worked in the stock market before turning that idea into a premium silicone lube.
The company added PINK for women in 2005, then water-based, hybrid and cream formulas. In 2015 its PINK and Gun Oil lubes received the CE mark in Europe. In June 2016 the US FDA cleared the core silicone and water-based lubes from both brands.
Empowered Products lubricants and lines
Empowered Products groups its range by brand and by base. Here are the main lines.
Gun Oil Silicone: the original
Gun Oil Silicone is the lube the company started with, and it is still its signature product. The brand says it uses a three-molecule silicone blend with vitamin E and aloe vera. It is water-resistant, so it keeps working in the shower or pool. It is unscented, unflavoured, glycerin-free and paraben-free. Among silicone-based lubes, it is known for a very slick, thin glide that lasts.
Gun Oil H2O and Gun Oil Natural: water-based
Gun Oil H2O is the water-based partner to the silicone. It is glycerin-free and paraben-free, with botanical extracts, and rinses off with water. Because it holds no silicone, the brand rates it safe with all sex toy materials, including silicone. Gun Oil Natural is a newer water-based lube made with organic aloe vera gel. Both suit people who want easy clean-up and no residue.
Force Recon and Loaded: hybrids
Force Recon is a concentrated water and silicone hybrid gel in a flip-top tube. It is thicker than H2O and stays where you put it, which suits anal play. Loaded is a creamy hybrid with about 5% silicone, made for long, silky glide. Both are glycerin-free and paraben-free. Their thick cushion is what most specialty lubricants aim for, and many buyers use them with larger sex toys.
Stroke 29 and Tactical: masturbation creams
Stroke 29 is Gun Oil’s thick masturbation cream. It blends water with natural oils and botanicals. It sits between water-based creams and true oil-based lubes, giving a rich feel without a greasy finish. Gun Oil Tactical is a water-based cream with a touch of silicone that never drips. Both double as massage creams. Neither is meant for intercourse or for use with condoms. The company says Penthouse gave Stroke 29 four out of four stars in 2013.
Gun Oil Toy and Shine: sex toy care
Gun Oil Toy is a water-based gel lube made thick enough to stay on a sex toy. It is glycerin-free and contains grapefruit seed extract. Gun Oil Shine is a foaming sex toy cleaner that is free of scent and dye. Pump the foam onto a clean sex toy, then rinse and dry. Together they cover play and clean-up for people with a growing collection.
PINK: lubricants for women
PINK is Empowered Products’ women’s brand, launched in 2005. PINK Silicone and PINK Water are the core lubes, and both sit on the same FDA clearance as Gun Oil. The range also includes Hot PINK, PINK Frolic, PINK Unity, PINK Indulgence Crème and PINK Natural. All are glycerin-free and paraben-free, per the brand. PINK sits comfortably among everyday personal lubes made for everyday comfort.
Natural Medilube and Gun Oil accessories
Natural Medilube is the company’s plant-based lube line, with water-based, silicone and plant-based options. Under the Gun Oil name, the company also sells cock rings, stretchy stacker rings, penis pumps and extension sleeves. These pair with the lubes for men’s solo or partner play. Check each pump or ring for sizing before you buy, and use a water-based lube with any silicone ring.
Silicone, water-based or hybrid?
Start with what you will use the lube for. Silicone, such as Gun Oil Silicone, lasts longest and keeps working in water. It is the pick for long sessions, shower play and anal sex without sex toys. It needs soap to wash off, and it is not for silicone sex toys.
Water-based lube, such as Gun Oil H2O, feels lighter and rinses off with water. It is safe with every sex toy material, so it is the easy choice for vibrators and masturbators. You may need to top it up during longer play.
Hybrids, such as Force Recon and Loaded, sit in between. They add a little silicone for longer glide but still wash off easily. Their thicker texture makes them a popular choice for anal play. Our guide to joining the size queen club covers why thick lube matters with bigger sex toys.
Understanding condom compatibility
Many buyers assume every lube works with every condom. Empowered Products’ FDA clearance shows that is not always true. Gun Oil Silicone and PINK Silicone are listed as compatible with polyurethane condoms. Gun Oil H2O and PINK Water are listed as compatible with polyisoprene condoms. None of the cleared lubes is listed for natural rubber latex condoms.
If you rely on latex condoms, check the label on your bottle and choose a lube marked latex-safe. Stroke 29 and Tactical contain oils or creams and are not meant for condom use at all.
Looking after your lube
Store your lube with the cap closed, away from heat and direct sun. A bedside drawer is ideal. Water-based and hybrid formulas contain preservatives, so check the use-by date and replace old bottles. Silicone lube lasts longer on the shelf. If a lube changes colour, smell or texture, throw it out. Wash silicone lube from sheets with a strong detergent soon after use.

Choosing your first Empowered Products lube
For long-lasting glide and water play, start with Gun Oil Silicone. If you use silicone sex toys, choose Gun Oil H2O or Gun Oil Toy instead. For anal play, the thick Force Recon gel is a strong first choice. If you mainly want a solo masturbation cream, pick Stroke 29. Women who want a gentle everyday lube can start with PINK Water.
Who Empowered Products suits — and who should look elsewhere
Empowered Products suits people who want a dependable, unscented lube with a long track record. Gun Oil is marketed mainly to men, including recent campaigns for the gay bear community. PINK is made with women in mind. Couples who play in the shower or bath will like the water-resistant silicone.
It is not the brand for flavoured or tingling lubes, as most formulas are plain by design. If you need certified organic or latex-condom-safe lube, check each label carefully. People who dislike silicone residue on sheets may prefer the water-based H2O.
Please read — safety first. Check condom compatibility before you use any lube with a condom. Under its FDA clearance, Gun Oil Silicone is listed for polyurethane condoms only, and Gun Oil H2O for polyisoprene condoms only. Neither is listed as compatible with natural rubber latex condoms. Stroke 29 and Tactical are not for intercourse or condoms. Do not use silicone lube on silicone sex toys, as it can damage the surface. Patch test any new lube on your inner arm first, and stop if irritation occurs. Silicone lube makes floors and shower bases slippery, so wipe up spills straight away. This information is general in nature and is not medical advice. If you have a health condition or ongoing discomfort, stop use and speak with a qualified health professional. |
