About Coco de Mer

Samantha Roddick opened Coco de Mer in November 2001 at 23 Monmouth Street, Covent Garden. A 2004 High Court judgment called it an "erotic emporium". The name comes from a palm that grows only in the Seychelles, whose seed resembles the female form. In that 2004 case, Chanel successfully blocked the brand from registering COCO DE MER in the UK for perfume, cosmetics and clothing.

Lucy Litwack, who previously worked for La Perla and Victoria's Secret, now owns and runs the business. She bought it in a 2017 management buyout. The Monmouth Street shop closed in 2023 and a boutique opened on Motcomb Street in Knightsbridge. Coco de Mer marks its 25th year in 2026.
