Beppy makes string-free soft tampons, also called menstrual sponges or sponge tampons, that sit fully inside the body. The Dutch brand began with gynaecologists in the 1990s and now adds silicone cups, a hollow tampon and period underwear.

About Beppy

Beppy is a Dutch period-care brand based in Rotterdam, with a second office in Hoogstraten, Belgium. Beppy says gynaecologists developed its first products in the 1990s. They were for women who wanted to swim, play sport, use the sauna or have sex during their period unnoticed. That idea still runs through the whole range.

The soft, string-free tampon made the brand's name. Over time Beppy added reusable products: a stemless silicone cup, the silicone Hollow Tampon and washable period underwear. Beppy product lines

Each Beppy product does the same job in a different way: disposable sponge, reusable silicone or washable fabric.

Soft+Comfort Wet: the string-free tampon, pre-moistened

Soft+Comfort Wet is the product Beppy is best known for. It is a soft sponge tampon with no string, so nothing shows outside the body. Each one is pre-moistened with Lactagel, Beppy's gel, to make insertion easier. You squeeze it between thumb and finger, slide it past the pelvic floor muscles, and remove it with a small loop. It comes in 4 and 8-piece packs, each tampon individually wrapped.

Classic Wet and Classic Dry

Adultsmart also lists Beppy soft tampons under the Classic name, in Wet and Dry versions. The Wet version carries the same Lactagel gel as Soft+Comfort Wet. The Dry version has no gel, so it is ready to absorb as soon as it is in. Some people use Dry on heavier days and add a little water-based lube if insertion feels tight. Both are single-use and individually wrapped.

The Hollow Tampon: silicone with a hollow core

The Hollow Tampon sits between a soft tampon and a cup. It is medical-grade silicone with a hollow core that collects blood rather than absorbing it. Beppy lists a capacity of 15 ml, a height of 5.4 cm including the removal ring and a 3.4 cm diameter. You fold one side in to insert it, and curved openings make the seal easier to break. It suits light to medium flow.

Beppy Cup: stemless, with a loop

The Beppy Cup has no stem. Instead, a soft loop at the base helps you insert and remove it. An anti-leak rim runs around the inside, and the silicone is softer than many cups. Beppy gives the size as 4.5 cm across the top and 3.5 cm at the base. It is 6 cm long including the 1.5 cm loop, close to a small-to-medium cup. It sells in pairs, alongside other menstrual cups.

Pure Period Panties: washable underwear

Beppy's period underwear uses several layers of absorbent, breathable fabric with a leak-resistant outer layer. Beppy says a pair holds the equivalent of two to four tampons, depending on the style, and can be worn for 8 to 12 hours. Sets come with two pairs, so one can be in the wash. They work alone on light days, or as a backup to a soft tampon or cup.

Comfort Gel, condoms and cup care

Beppy also makes products for around the period. Comfort Gel is an unscented water-based lubricant that Beppy says will not stick or stain. Beppy condoms are natural rubber latex, in natural or strawberry flavour. For the cup, Beppy sells a Neutral Cup Soap and a steam steriliser. How a string-free soft tampon works

A regular tampon is compressed cotton or rayon with a string for removal. A Beppy soft tampon is a small, soft sponge with no string. You squeeze it flat between your thumb and finger, then slide it in with a finger until it sits past the pelvic floor muscles. Once in place it softens at body temperature and absorbs menstrual blood where it sits.

To remove it, relax, squat or put one foot on the toilet, and hook the small loop or pinch the sponge with two fingers. Beppy notes it cannot get lost, because nothing can pass the small opening of the cervix. Wet or Dry

The two disposable versions differ only in the gel. Wet tampons come pre-moistened with Lactagel, which makes them glide in more easily. Many people find Wet the best choice for a first try, for lighter days, or when they feel tense.

Dry tampons have no gel, so the sponge starts absorbing as soon as it is in. Some people prefer Dry for heavier days. If a Dry tampon feels hard to insert, a small amount of plain water-based lube helps. Both versions follow the same 8-hour limit.

Beppy and period sex

Period sex is the reason many people first try Beppy. Because there is no string and the sponge sits high, Beppy says a partner usually feels little or nothing, and the sponge stays in place. Beppy also says its tampons have been used with condoms for years. Lay down a dark towel all the same.

A soft tampon is not contraception and does not protect against infections. Pregnancy is still possible during a period, and blood can carry infections, so use condoms unless you are both tested. Materials and build

Beppy describes its soft tampons as a soft, flexible, skin-friendly sponge material, and its site shows an OEKO-TEX mark for the materials. It does not publish the exact foam type. The cup and Hollow Tampon are medical-grade silicone, which is non-porous and reusable for years with good care.

Clean reusable silicone products between uses with warm water and an unscented soap, and sterilise them in boiling water or a steriliser between periods. Store them in a breathable pouch, not an airtight box. Soft tampons go in the bin after one use. Never flush them.
