Why choose a Bathmate hydro pump These are the pumps that started the hydro format, made in West Yorkshire since 2006. The bellows design is covered by a granted European patent. The model number tells you the erect length it fits, so choosing is quick. Every model here appears on DX Products' FDA establishment listing. Pads, inserts and valves are sold separately, so a pump can last for years.

About Bathmate hydro pumps
A hydro pump is a penis pump designed to be used full of water, in the bath or shower. Bathmate made the first one, the Hercules, in 2006, and designer John Oakes is still the named inventor on its patent. our profile of Bathmate designer John Oakes covers his engineering background and why he chose water over air.
This collection holds only the hydro pumps and their comfort inserts. Rings, cleaning gear and the rest sit in the full Bathmate range. Everything here works the same way: a clear tube, a soft seal at the base and a way to push water out. The difference between models is size and how you push the water.
Bathmate hydro pumps by size
Each snippet covers one size step, with both pump styles where they exist.
Hydro7: the original, renamed
The Hydro7 is the Hercules from 2006 under its current name. It fits an erect length of 5 to 7 inches. The bellows at the base are simpler than the Hydromax version, and the comfort pads stick on rather than clip in. It is the lightest way into hydro pumping, and the one John Oakes built first. Pick it if you want the classic design and fewer parts.
Hydromax3 and HydroXtreme3: the smallest sizes
These two pumps fit an erect length of 1 to 3 inches. Most pump brands start much larger, so this size is unusual. The Hydromax3 is about 7 inches long overall and comes in blue, red or clear. The HydroXtreme3 adds the handball pump and a quick-release valve, with a chamber that takes girth up to 6 inches. Both follow the same short-session guidance as larger models.
Hydromax5 and HydroXtreme5: 3 to 5 inches
The Hydromax5 is the second-generation pump formerly called the X20. It fits 3 to 5 inches with girth up to 6.5 inches. Its Superflow latch valve lets you lock or open it with one hand. The HydroXtreme5 kit adds the handball pump, a carry case, a comfort pad, a shower strap and cleaning supplies. Choose the kit if you want everything at once.
Hydromax6: the in-between size
The Hydromax6 fills the gap between the 5 and 7 for an erect length of 4 to 6 inches. It uses the same clear polycarbonate cylinder and silicone comfort seal as the rest of the range. If you sit right on the edge between two sizes, an in-between model can give a better seal than going up. Measure carefully before you choose, as the wrong size is the most common cause of a weak seal.
Hydromax7: the best-known size
The Hydromax7 is the current name for the X30, the pump that launched the second generation in 2012. It fits 5 to 7 inches. Etched markings run up the cylinder, and a removable comfort pad sits at the base. A version with a long comfort insert lines the chamber for a softer feel. Most buyers start here, because it matches the most common erect length range.
Hydromax7 Wide Boy: for wider girth
The Wide Boy has a chamber 2.4 inches across and an overall length of about 11.4 inches. It suits men in the 5 to 7 inch length range whose girth is over 6.5 inches, who may find the standard chamber tight. It keeps one-hand operation and the same valve as the standard Hydromax7. If the standard model pinches at the base, this is the one to try.
Hydromax8 and HydroXtreme8: 6 to 8 inches
The 8 sits between the 7 and 9 for men measuring 6 to 8 inches. The Hydromax8 has a quick-release valve and a soft-seal comfort pad. The HydroXtreme8 Crystal adds the handball pump, a comfort insert pad, a measuring gauge and a carry case in a fully clear body. Crystal editions make the measuring marks easier to read through the water.
Hydromax9 and the X40 Xtreme: 7 to 9 inches and up
The Hydromax9 is the current name for the X40 and fits 7 to 9 inches. The Hydromax Xtreme X40 kit takes lengths up to about 10 inches and, per its listing, holds about 15% more than the X30. It adds a handball pump on a hose, lube, a gauge and a shower strap. Both have a safety valve that drops the pressure in one press.
HydroXtreme11: the largest Bathmate
The HydroXtreme11 is the biggest pump in the range. It fits an erect length of 9 to 11 inches and girth up to 8.5 inches. It comes only as a handball kit, as squeezing a chamber this long against the body would be awkward. A quick-release valve sits on the chamber. Its comfort pads are sold separately as the HydroXtreme11 x50 cushion set if yours wear out.
Comfort inserts: a softer chamber
Comfort inserts line the inside of a Hydromax chamber. They make the edge softer and help the seal sit more naturally against the body. The long insert fits the X20, X30 and X40 bodies, so it works with the 5, 7 and 9. Inserts wear with use, as do pads, and both are cheap to replace. For the pads that sit outside the chamber, see our replacement comfort rings.
Bellows or handball: which pump action
Every Hydro and Hydromax model uses a bellows, a pleated section at the base. You hold the pump against your body and press, and water squeezes out through the valve at the top. It is quick to learn and has no extra parts to lose. The trade-off is that you control the pressure by pushing, which takes a little practice.
HydroXtreme models move the job to a handball on a hose. You squeeze the ball in one hand and the chamber stays still. That gives finer steps of pressure and makes it easier to stop exactly where you want. The handball also suits the longest sizes. If you want the simplest pump, choose Hydromax. If you want fine control, choose HydroXtreme.
Getting the size right
Size matters more than model. Measure erect length along the top, from the pubic bone to the tip. Measure erect girth around the widest point. Choose the number that matches the top of your length range, and check your girth against the listing.
Too big a pump makes the seal hard to hold, because there is too much space to fill. Too small a pump presses on the end of the chamber. If your girth is over 6.5 inches in the 5 to 7 range, go straight to the Wide Boy. If you sit between two sizes, the Hydromax6 and the 8 cover the gaps.
Bath or shower
All the pumps here work in both. In a bath, the water around you helps keep the chamber full. In a shower, you fill the chamber first and press it into place. A shower strap, included with the HydroXtreme kits, holds it while you wash. If you mostly shower, our men's shower hydro pumps include every model suited to standing use. Either way, warm water helps the seal form and keeps the session comfortable.
Materials and build
The chambers are clear polycarbonate, chosen because it is strong, light and easy to see through. The bellows are a flexible rubber or silicone, and the comfort pads at the base are soft and removable. The valve on top is plastic and can wear, so Bathmate sells replacement valve packs. Pumps need no batteries and no charging.
After each session, empty the pump, rinse it in warm water and let every part air-dry before you store it. Water left inside can grow mould around the bellows. A long brush reaches into the bellows; our penis pump cleaning kits include one.

Your first session
Start in a warm bath or shower. Fill the chamber with warm water, then slide it on and press it against your body to form the seal. Give a few gentle squeezes, or a few pumps of the handball, and stop at the first feeling of firm pressure. Hold there, then press the valve to release.
Keep the first few sessions very short. A timer helps. It is normal for the first try to feel awkward. Read one customer's account of learning to pump. The writer says pumping too long caused light bruising. Slow, logged sessions worked far better. The same lesson applies to hydro pumps.
Who these pumps suit — and who should look elsewhere
Bathmate hydro pumps suit men who like the idea of using a pump in the bath or shower. They suit men who want a clear sizing system and spares that are easy to find.
Look elsewhere if you want an air pump with a gauge, an electric pump or a pump for use in bed. These are water pumps. Skip them if you have a bleeding disorder or take blood thinners, unless your doctor agrees. We make no claims about size, erections or any health outcome.
Please read — safety first. Use warm water, never hot. Keep each session short and take breaks, as the listings advise: no more than five minutes at a time and 15 minutes a day. Release the valve at once if you feel pain, numbness or tingling, or see red spots, blisters or skin darkening. Do not pump if you have been drinking, feel drowsy, or have broken skin. Speak to a doctor first if you take blood thinners, have a bleeding disorder or Peyronie's disease, or have a spinal injury. Pumps are not a treatment for any condition. This information is general in nature and is not medical advice. If you have a health condition or ongoing discomfort, stop use and speak with a qualified health professional. |
