Creative Conceptions began with a couple and a quiet night in. After having two children, Jane and Richie Bowles found their sex life had slowed down. Instead of watching TV, they made their own sexy board game, with a homemade board and paper cards. Friends who tried it asked for copies. That game became Monogamy, and the business grew from there.

The company says it has traded since 1991. Its current company was registered in May 2001 and is based in Newark, Nottinghamshire. It is still run by the Bowles family, with Richie Bowles as CEO, Jane Bowles as director and Chris Bowles as general manager. In recent years it has moved from games into its own sex toys. Unihorn, Sei Mio, Masturmate and the Clarity glass range all launched since 2022.

Awards and recognition

The company's first big trade award came in 2018, when StorErotica named it Adult Game/Gag Gift of the Year. In 2021, Skins won Excellence in International Trade at the East Midlands Business Awards. XBIZ named Creative Conceptions International Distributor of the Year at the January 2025 XMAs. In June 2025, Unihorn won Best Adult Brand at the Alternative Awards in Leicester. In 2026, StorErotica added Foreign Manufacturer of the Year.

Monogamy: the game that built the company

Jane and Richie Bowles made the first Monogamy set at home, with a hand-drawn board and paper cards. It went on sale in the early 2000s, and the US trademark was registered in 2002. The full title is Monogamy: A Hot Affair… With Your Partner. Couples move round a board, drawing cards that build from flirting to full role-play. Sexy 6: six dice, 720 outcomes

Launched in 2018, Sexy 6 replaces a board with six dice. Each one decides a different part of the scene.
