There are so many different names for a vagina: Vagina, pussy, muff, punani, yoni, honey pot, badly packed kebab, meat wallet, meat flaps, snatch, tampon tunnel and juice box. Whatever you call yours, I doubt you’d be surprised when I said that almost ALL women are disappointed, unhappy or ashamed of how their genitals looks. Looking back at my school life, work life or even casual chats with friends I don’t think I ever remember hearing a friend or peer say that they were happy with their body type of how their vagina looked. I guess it doesn’t really come up in conversation the comparison of peoples Vagina Types. But it would be nice to know what Vagina Types looked like specifically because half of the population has one.
It’s increasingly appearing when I’m at work at Oh Zone Adult Lifestyle Centres women come in who can’t even bare to utter the words clitoris or vagina – it’s actually quite frightening. I hear a lot of people saying it comes down to the media and pornography but I mean, I have a really long big toe but I don’t ever remember looking at someone elses and thinking fuck, I wish mine looked like that. You know, it’s just one of those thing’s on our bodies we have. The beauty of being on this planet is that we are all SO SO SO different, sometimes we don’t even realise just how different we are. We weren’t all created to look the same. We are a complex mix of genes, DNA, chemicals and other cool stuff that form a much more complex being that exists for more than just aesthetic.
The first thing I’d like to point about Vagina Types:
- When people are talking about the shape of their vagina, they’re most likely referring to their labia.
- The vagina refers to the vaginal opening – where we are all essentially pretty similar.
- The labia, are the folds or lips of skin on either side of the vagina,
- The vulva refers to the ‘whole package’ – clitoris, labia, vagina, opening to the urethra.

The colour, shape, size, length, texture, smell and taste of every vulva is completely unique to that of the person – though the latter comes down to mostly personal hygiene. Essentially, I think the best thing we could all do is google ‘wall of vaginas’ and check out this awesome guy who molds casts Vagina Types for a living (what a job). It’s so interesting to see them all together…It’s so interesting to look at as not one is the same as the other. Imagine that the world of vagina’s are just so different, it’s almost as if they can be used as a different type of thumb print. My new favourite analogy is comparing genitals to snow flakes – every one is different.
But as time goes on, our bodies change as how we live our life directly impacts our body type. Sometimes we might eat more than normal and exercise less, so they grow a little bit bigger and softer in size. We might lose weight so they make become smaller in size. Then it may depend on what type of masturbation or sex we have. All of our lifestyle’s are so different to the next. It would be interesting to compare people’s lifestyle with how their vagina looks.
The different shapes in labia is what makes reaching orgasm a unique process for every woman – fun fact! Most people don’t know that exact symmetry is extremely rare on any human body part, let alone their labia. I’ve really been digging deep into what makes people uncomfortable about their own genitals and so far it’s ALWAYS come down to the ‘look’ of their vulva and that they aren’t happy with it.
In summary, we are all made to look different. Our faces are all different, our hair is different, our hands are different, why would our vulvae be any different?? It’s not acceptable for anyone, whether it be a sexual partner, friend, lover or beautician to pass judgment on what any part of you looks like. But here’s a bit of self vulva appreciation for your evening whether it made a good article or not! In fact, there are even types of penis types.
