Hey Oz:  My Boyfriend is usually meek and mild but when we are having sex he changes, sometimes it turns me on but other times it scares me.  He talks dirty to me and sometimes I feel that I am just being used.  Why does his personality change?

A.  It’s important to have open communication with your boyfriend about how you feel during sex.  Possible that his change in personality is simply a result of him feeling more comfortable and confident in that situation.  It’s also important to make sure that both partners are comfortable and consenting.

If you feel that you are being used or uncomfortable with the situation, it’s important to communicate that with your partner and set boundaries. It’s possible that your partner may not realize how his behavior is affecting you and may be open to changing it.

Hey Oz:  I have been training really hard at the gym lately and when I get home at night all I want to do is lounge round and then go to sleep.  My girlfriend has been complaining that I have not giving her enought attention in the bedroom department.  Does going to the gym effect my libido?

A.  Yes, excessive exercise or high-intensity workouts can have an impact on your libido. Research from the National Library of Medicine has shown that men who engage in frequent and high-intensity workouts are more likely to report lower libidos and sex drive.

High volume endurance exercises such as marathons and triathlons can reduce testosterone levels by 20-40%.  Leading to a decrease in libido. Additionally, exercise-induced tiredness can also account for a reduction in sexual desire.

It’s important to find a balance between exercise and rest to maintain a healthy libido. Moderate exercise for 20 minutes 3-4 times a week has no effect on testosterone levels or libido and is beneficial for overall health.

If you are experiencing a decrease in libido, it’s important to communicate with your partner.  Consult with your healthcare provider for a testosterone level check.

Hey Oz: I read all this stuff about sex and how it is good for you physically and emotionally. How good for you is it really?

A. Sex can have numerous physical and psychological benefits for individuals, as outlined in the web search results. It can reduce stress and anxiety, boost mood and libido, burn calories, improve sleep, relieve pain, strengthen the immune system, and improve cognitive health.

Sexual activity releases endorphins, the neurotransmitters associated with pleasure, motivation, and energy, which can also improve self-esteem and confidence. It also increases oxytocin levels, which are responsible for trust, empathy, and desire for your partner, potentially leading to a higher sex drive.

Engaging in regular sex with a partner is associated with emotional closeness, which leads to a healthy relationship, while a lack of sex can lead to feelings of inadequacy, angst, and self-doubt. However, it’s important to understand and communicate your needs and desires to have a healthy sex life.
