The Ultimate A-Z Guide To Using Vegan Sex Aids

Did you know that vegan sex aids are a thing? Explore materials  and top brands in our ultimate A-Z guide to vegan sex aids. But first here is an explanation of the term “vegan” –

vegan

ˈviːɡ(ə)n/

noun

1.

a person who does not eat or use animal products.

adjective

1.

using or containing no animal products:

“a vegan diet”

Before I get into the fun stuff, I’ll just clarify some terms I’ll be using here like the difference between something that’s “Vegan” and something that is “Accidentally Vegan”.. So if I refer to a product as being vegan then I mean the company has actually put “vegan” or “vegan friendly” on their packaging, and if I refer to something as “accidentally vegan” I mean that although it does not state it on the pack I can confirm that the item is indeed safe for vegans to use (like how Oreos are accidentally vegan … mmmm Oreos).

  • CF = Cruelty Free
  • V = Vegan
  • AV = Accidentally vegan

Discover vegan-friendly materials, companies, and products with our concise guide.

Vegan Materials for Vega Sex Aids

  • Silicone – Silicone is a personal favourite of mine, I love how it feels on my skin, it’s easy to clean (high-quality silicone is actually dishwasher safe, bleachable and boilable).
  • Leatherette & Synthetic Leather – Leatherette is a great alternative to leather which a similar feel and often being both vegan and accidentally vegan.
  • Metal & Glass – Both of these are safe vegan options and great for temperature play.
  • Faux Fur & Synthetic Wool – Many cuffs, paddles etc are lined with fur and is generally faux. When purchasing butt plug tails, be aware that some may use real fox/animal tails. Faux fur and real fur have very different feels and it’s usually very easy to tell the difference (google has some good guides on this).
  • ABS Plastic – Being made from oil and not being biodegradable this one is up to you, but as far as the material quality goes try and go for silicone if you can.
  • Satin – Avoid satin or anything described as “silky” that isn’t real silk.
  • Rope – Choose hemp rope for an environmentally friendly and high-quality option as rope is typically vegan.
  • Neoprene – Somewhere between leather and silicone this fabric is soft, easy to clean and best of all safe for vegans.
  • Polyester & Cotton – These are safe.

Non-Vegan Materials for Vegan Sex Aids

(Some of these can possibly be vegan-friendly, it’s always best to double check.)

  • Leather & Suede – Animal skin is an obvious non-vegan material.
  • Rubber – Some rubber is vegan some is not its always best to check if you can but more often than not it is vegan.
  • Latex – Some latex products, including condoms, may not be vegan due to the use of casein. A quick email to the company will answer your questions about a specific item of clothing or product.
  • Silk – Avoid real silk, typically sourced from silk worms or other animals, as it’s non-vegan.

Some items that you may not have realised aren’t vegan include condoms, dental dams and lube. Read our complete guide to vegan condoms here.
