J-LUBE Vs Surgilube: Which Is The Best Lube?

I came across J-LUBE lubricant on Sunday at our Adult Lifestyle Centre store in Kogarah. It describes itself as:

“A hand lubricant concentrate for Veterinarian use only”

I was quite intrigued by the packaging and contents being dry. Rather than the normal pre-mixed wet lubricants that we all know and use regularly. I had never seen or known that this type of lubricant existed.

Once I researched J-LUBE further I was really surprised with what I found with its versatility and differences to other competing products on the market.

J-LUBE is Versatile

Manufactured by Jorgenson Laboratories in Colorado, USA.

  • It was originally made for and used by Doctors, Farmers, and Veterinarians. Mostly, to aid in exams and/or ease difficulty during birth.
  • Artists have also used J-LUBE on movie and television show sets for a variety of special effects purposes.
  • It can be used for a wide variety of personal and intimate needs including masturbation, intercourse, anal sex, vaginal dryness, massage.
  • Extreme intimate activities such as fisting or inserting larger toys.
  • It is also compatible with any sex toy material and is latex friendly.

J-LUBE is an all-purpose lubricant that comes in powder form.

One 284 gram bottle will yield approximately 20-30 litres of lubricant. You can buy a large volume of the lubricant for such an affordable price at Oh Zone Penrith for $64.99. Since it is a powder lubricant, the consistency and viscosity will vary depending on the amount of water you use and how you mix it.

I have also found that there are YouTube tutorials showing the simplest and easiest way to mix J-LUBE quickly and for the widest variety of uses. But it is intended for those who are looking to mix just enough lubricant to use when they’re ready to engage in intimate activities.

J-LUBE can be mixed ahead of time

And stored in your own container or dispenser. You can also mix it right before engaging in intimate activities. Some prefer the feeling of freshly mixed J-LUBE shortly before playtime. While others prefer the convenience of having the lubricant ready to grab for those spur-of-the-moment trysts.

J-LUBE is water-based containing only 2 ingredients

Polyethylene polymer (25%) and dispersing agent (75%). This product contains no preservatives. When mixing J-LUBE you will need to wear latex exam gloves and an air filter mask to keep dust from the powder from entering your lungs. As well as to keep any bacteria on your skin from coming into contact with the product during the mixing process. If you choose not to wear gloves, be sure to thoroughly wash your hands prior to mixing to prevent any cross-contamination.

If you decide to pre-mix J-LUBE and store it in a container, be sure to properly sanitize. Wash out your container between each refill. It is recommended to maintain a fresh batch by discarding any portion that isn’t used within 3 weeks of being mixed.  It should always be refrigerated between uses.

J-LUBE can be frozen to avoid waste.

Simply mix your large batch and pour into separate containers or dispensers that you can freeze and use when ready. Some have frozen their pre-mixed J-LUBE into cubes, which they insert to sooth the skin after an intense play session.

Some tips and tricks to know about J-LUBE

  • Cold water works best when mixing J-LUBE.
  • Microwave your mix to help dissolve clumps. Be sure to let it cool before touching.
  • Create a slurry by adding a small bit of water to hydrate the total measured powder before adding the entire portion of water.
  • If you over-work your slurry, it can result in a clump that will not dissolve.
  • Sifting the powder prior to mixing can reduce the number of clumps formed during mixing.
  • The less water you use, the thicker the final mix will be.
  • Pre-dry the powder in a zip lock bag that is inside another ziplock bag with desiccant packets between the layers. Dryer your powder, the less it will clump.

Aside from a little preparation, J-LUBE is so straightforward to use.

You will definitely benefit from J-LUBE. Especially if you are someone that requires larger than normal quantities or someone who may use it for a large range of activities.

Also for those who don’t like the waste, with J-LUBE you don’t have to worry about having different lubes for each specific occasion. It takes the clutter and confusion out of your day and night knowing that it’s an all-in-one product!

Surgilube – A Slippery Occasion Every Time!

A sterile water-based lubricant which was specially formulated for surgical and gynaecological lubrication. The Surgilube formulation is very smooth and will provide lubrication and comfort when inserting objects into orifices of the human body.

This makes it perfect for sounding and using penis plugs safely.

What is sounding and penis plugs?

Sounding is the practice of placing a soft or firm object into the urethra for sexual pleasure and increased sexual gratification from the inside-out. A penis plug is similar to a urethral sound and comes in many designs. Penis Plugs can be designed to be worn for some time with the ability to urinate and ejaculate with the plug still in place.

They are able to be utilised by women for urethral play due to the shorter overall length. Urethral sounding has moved from the medical field where probes were used to locate and remove obstructions, into bedrooms and the sex lives of many people.

Stretching and intense sensations upon movement leading to orgasm are the goal of using sounds and plugs.

What Is The Urethra?

A urethra is the tube or duct by which urine is carried from the bladder, which stores urine before urination to the outside of the body. It is composed of muscle, skin cells and cells that produce mucus to protect against irritation from urine. In males, the urethra also serves as the tube by which a man ejaculates and semen leaves the body.

Another big difference between males and females is that of length with the male urethra being 20 centimetres long on average and the female urethra only 5 centimetres at most.

This is one of the primary reasons why females tend to be at higher risk of urinary tract infections and at greater risk for bladder and kidney infections.  It is important to understand when using sounds and penis plugs for sexual play.

Risks of Urethral Play and Sounding

There is a risk of causing irritation and micro-tears to the urethra when using sounds and penis plugs even if done correctly. Irritation and micro tears that could occur make the urethra extremely susceptible to colonisation by foreign organisms. That may have been introduced with the sounds or plugs.

Introduction of foreign microbes into the urethra can lead to infection, pain and discomfort. In women especially due to their shorter length urethra, it is extremely easy for the micro-organisms to make their way to the bladder and cause a bladder infection. Or even worse continue further along the urinary tract to the kidneys.

In all instances, a trip to a doctor is well advised as antibiotics will be needed.

Given the longer length of the urethra in males

It is harder for microbes to make their way as far as the bladder, placing them at less risk of adverse outcomes when sounding or using penis plugs. Urinating before and after sounding and plug use can help to minimise the risk. By helping to flush any microbes that are stuck to the walls and entrance of the urethra.

Why Surgilube?

Formulation of Surgilube is bacteriostatic and antimicrobial.

In simple terms, this means that the lubricant contains ingredients to stop micro-organisms from reproducing. As well as inhibiting the growth of other micro-organisms.  Surgilube, the agent used is chlorhexidine gluconate, which is the same ingredient that is used in the hospital setting to ensure the risk of infection is minimised.

Chlorhexidine gluconate is on the list of essential medicines according to the World Health Organisation. It is used as a skin cleanser for surgical scrubs, hand rinses, surgical preparation and for skin wounds.

Important Note

Is important to note that chlorhexidine is used at different concentrations for these purposes.  In Surgilube chlorhexidine is present at less than 1% of total ingredients. And will not cause harm to the user by inhibiting all micro-flora found naturally on or in the person.

No component of Surgilube is known to cause skin sensitisation. Amount used in Surgilube is still very effective against the growth of microbes.

What is in Surgilube?

Hypromellose, Propylene Glycol plus water and other trace ingredients including the chlorhexidine.  In lay terms, the formulation is a mix of natural water-soluble gums which are not messy, not sticky. Does not have a fragrance and will not stain.

Compare this to a typical ingredient list of a water-based lubricant.  Glycerine, propylene glycol, purified water, hydroxyethyl cellulose, lambda carrageenan, methyl and ethyl hydroxybenzoate, Phenoxyethanol, emulsifying wax, sodium lactate, alpha-tocopherol acetate, EDTA.

Paired-back formulation of Surgilube is safe for even the most sensitive of people. Ensuring that the user’s comfort is maintained whilst minimising the risk of infections.

Final Thoughts

Surgilube is the essential lubricant in the toolkit of sex, masturbation, sounds and penis plugs. It ensures that the user minimises their risk of adverse outcomes and infections.
