Premium metal sex toys are made with medical grade stainless steel that is hygienic, almost break proof and can adapt to hot or cold temperatures. Hell’s Couture is a leading worldwide distributor of medical grade sex toys that supplies penis plugs, cock cages, bondage and fetish gear that are made to this standard. To understand why medical grade steel is so important you have to ask “What is medical grade steel?”

Stainless steel is one of the most widely used metals on the planet. It was first used in mechanical applications such as the construction of bridges due to the immense tensile strength the metal possesses. Despite not being the strongest metal, it is relatively cheap compared to other more durable materials like diamond. The use of stainless steel slowly crept into our kitchens in the making of cutlery and pans. This trend emerged on account of its shiny appearance, good strength and the fact that it does not have chemical reactions with food. Other areas that have adopted the use of stainless steel include plumbing and jewellery.

With its vast applications and growing popularity, it was just a matter of time before people realized that it would be beneficial to use in the medical arena. Certain grades of stainless steel can be placed safely internally and externally of the human body which have no current observation of adverse side effects. The grades include:

  • Austenitic Grades 1.4301 and 1.4307.
  • Martensitic Grades 1.4021 and 1.4122.
  • Ferrite Grades 1.4016 and 1.4510.
  • Stainless Steel Grades 1.4401, 1.4435 and 1.4439.

These grades can handle the natural wear of daily use and is used to manufacture medical devices. The only component of stainless steel that is of concern is nickel, as some people are allergic to it. Allergies limit the amount of time a person can be in contact with the metal without side effects manifesting. When the sweat of a person who is allergic comes in contact with Nickel. The metal is eroded and then absorbed into their body triggering an allergic reaction.

It is of great importance to investigate the grades of stainless steel that might affect the human body. Several research studies have been undertaken with this in mind. One study investigated the difference between steel that is high in sulphur and low in nickel. The researchers carried a comparison of four common steel types that included; Austenitic Stainless Steel Grade 1.4305, 1.4404, 1.4301 and Ferritic Stainless Steel Grade 1.4016. Tests were conducted in a laboratory with some samples of sweat drawn from allergic individuals. The test was also performed on the test patients to confirm the results.

Ferritic Stainless Steel Grade 1.4016 was found to release slight amounts of nickel when the metal was put in an acidic environment. Despite being an alloy of nickel, the levels of metal are too low to have any substantial effect on the human body. Austenitic Stainless Steel Grade 1.4404 and 1.4301 were tested under the same conditions. They were found to have very low levels of nickel with almost zero negative impact on the human body. These Austenitic and Ferritic Stainless Steel Grades are rendered safe for medical application.

It was agreed that the steel used for medical applications should not have a nickel level of over 0.2 micrograms per square centimeter. This applies to all objects that come in contact with the skin for an extended period of time including necklaces, rings, and watches. Although Free Machining Steel is easy to manufacture, however it was determined to have high levels of nickel which makes it not unsuitable for human applications.

It goes without saying that the stainless steel used as implants and medical devices need lots of care when making a choice. This is because human organs can be fragile in nature and hence need special care. The choice of steel is determined by the amount of time it comes in contact with the tissue. Long term use is when a product comes in contact with the body for a period shorter or longer than thirty days. If a medical device is put in contact with a human tissue for an extended period, typically more than a month, then it is considered to be an implant. Short term use is when a product is used up to a maximum of sixty minutes.

Stainless Steel Grades 1.4401, 1.4435 and 1.4439 are commonly used for surgical implants due to its higher resistance to corrosion and high levels of nitrogen. The surface of Stainless Steel used for implants is supposed to be polished which enables then to have higher corrosion resistance. Electropolishing is a standard procedure not only for the implants but also any other equipment used for surgery.

Stainless Steel has been improved by the introduction of chromium and molybdenum elements in a bid to improve their resistance to any form of corrosion. This task is accomplished through two procedures that are unique to medical grade steel namely electro-slag remelting and vacuum induction. This process might come at a slightly higher cost of production, but the sacrifice is worthwhile. Medical grade steel contains no magnate which is the ingredient that makes it rust.

Quality medical grade steel sex toys can last a lifetime, so it goes without saying that the original additional cost will be well worth it in the long-run.

Review: Surgilube

Surgilube Lubricant Photo

Surgilube is a sterile water-based lubricant which was specially formulated for surgical and gynaecological lubrication. The Surgilube formulation is very smooth and will provide lubrication and comfort when inserting objects into orifices of the human body. This makes it perfect for sounding and penis plug use.

What is sounding and penis plugs?

Sounding is the practice of placing a soft or firm object into the urethra for sexual pleasure and increased sexual gratification from the inside-out. A penis plug is similar to a urethral sound and come in many designs. Penis Plugs can be designed to be worn for some time with the ability to urinate and ejaculate with the plug still in place. Penis plugs are able to be utilised by women for urethral play due to the shorter overall length. Urethral sounding has moved from the medical field where probes were used to locate and remove obstructions, into bedrooms and the sex lives of many people. Stretching and intense sensations upon movement leading to orgasm are the goal of using sounds and plugs.

What Is The Urethra?

The urethra is the tube or duct by which urine is carried from the bladder, which stores urine before urination to the outside of the body. It is composed of muscle, skin cells and cells that produce mucous to protect against irritation from urine. In males the urethra also serves as the tube by which a man ejaculates and semen leaves the body. Another big difference between males and females is that of length with the male urethra being 20 centimetres long on average and the female urethra only 5 centimetres at most. This is one of the primary reasons why females tend to be at higher risk of urinary tract infections and at greater risk for bladder and kidney infections. This is important to understand when using sounds and penis plugs for sexual play.

There is a risk of causing irritation and micro tears to the urethra when using sounds and penis plugs even if done correctly. The irritation and micro tears that could occur make the urethra extremely susceptible to colonisation by foreign organisms that may have been introduced with the sounds or plugs. Introduction of foreign microbes into the urethra can lead to infection, pain and discomfort. In women especially due to their shorter length urethra it is extremely easy for the micro-organisms to make their way to the bladder and cause a bladder infection or even worse continue further along the urinary tract to the kidneys. In all instances a trip to a doctor is well advised as antibiotics will be needed. Given the longer length of the urethra in males it is harder for microbes to make their way as far as the bladder, placing them at less risk of adverse outcomes when sounding or using penis plugs. Urinating before and after sounding and plug use can help to minimise the risk by helping to flush any microbes that are stuck to the walls and entrance of the urethra.

Why Surgilube?

The formulation of Surgilube is bacteriostatic and antimicrobial. In simple terms this means that the lubricant contains ingredients to stop micro-organisms from reproducing as well as inhibiting the growth of other micro-organisms. In the case of Surgilube the agent used is chlorhexidine gluconate, which is the same ingredient that is used in the hospital setting to ensure risk of infection is minimised. Chlorhexidine gluconate is on the list of essential medicines according to the World Health Organisation and is used as a skin cleanser for surgical scrubs, hand rinses, surgical preparation and for skin wounds. It is important to note that chlorhexidine is used at different concentrations for these purposes. In Surgilube chlorhexidine is present at less than 1% of total ingredients and will not cause harm to the user by inhibiting all micro-flora found naturally on or in the person. No component of Surgilube is known to cause skin sensitisation. The amount used in Surgilube is still very effective against the growth of microbes.

The composition of Surgilube is Hypromellose, Propylene Glycol plus water and other trace ingredients including the chlorhexidine. In lay terms, the formulation is a mix of natural water soluble gums which are not messy, not sticky, does not have a fragrance and will not stain. Compare this to a typical ingredient list of a water-based lubricant: Glycerine, propylene glycol, purified water, hydroxy ethyl cellulose, lambda carrageenan, methyl and ethyl hydroxybenzoate, phenoxyethanol, emulsifying wax, sodium lactate, alpha tocopherol acetate, EDTA. The paired-back formulation of Surgilube is safe for even the most sensitive of people ensuring that the users comfort is maintained whilst minimising the risk of infections.

Surgilube is the essential lubricant in the toolkit of sex, masturbation, sounds and penis plugs and ensures that the user minimises their risk of adverse outcomes and infections.

Gaga Over A Steel Dildo!

Baci Bondage Couple
I was going to be seeing my first live burlesque performance on one of my days off and talk about that but events conspired against me so I’ve had to switch topics and save that one for another week. Instead I want to talk about g-spot toys again, which seems to be an ongoing theme for me lately. It is kind of funny because not so long ago I thought I was one of those women just not that interested in g-spot action, therefore I am a little late to the party but enthusiastically catching up to the rest of the revelers.
So recently it has come to my attention that sex toy reviewers in the States are all totally gaga about steel dildos. I have never heard of these steel dildos! The steel dildos are called the Pure Wand and I don’t think they actually sell it here in Australia but it turns out one of our local suppliers do actually make the same style of toy and I have been wondering just what all the hype is about so I had to take a look for myself. I mean, this style of toy is apparently one that sexperts would include if they could only pick a couple of toys to use for the rest of their lives. I know, just thinking of the horror that we can only pick out a couple of sex toys for the rest of our lives! Let’s hope that even if we get stranded on a desert island, we can carve new toys from coconuts or something but i digress if I ever have to carve my own sex toys out of coconuts I guarantee there will be a whole separate article devoted to it.

So I figured there’s got to be something exciting about this toy. In particular I  had not really expected a steel toy to be that popular so I figured I must have been missing something. I guess I was falling prey to the idea that steel was only for steel fetishists and vibrating toys were where it’s at for the rest of the masturbating, sex having population. But as I read more about it and to be honest, thought about the improvised dildos I had used before I got my first vibrator, I realised I’d been selling them way short and they’re actually really suitable for most people. To own a steel dildo you don’t have to be even remotely hardcore or even have a love for steel sex toy. You could say the exact same thing for glass toys, which I love almost equally as much. Glass toys have similar quality’s to the steel sex toys which is another review in itself.

Steel Double Ended DildoAnd so without further ado, this is Hell’s Couture’s Chrome Crescent double ended, curved, steel dildo designed to be great for both anal and g-spot play. Like the famed Pure Wand it is a very curved toy, heavy steel, solid, and double ended. It’s about 200mm in length and the widest end is 37mm. The smaller end is a much more modest 25mm so there is no need to worry if the larger end seems too much for you at first glance. The first thing you notice when you pick up this toy is the weight. You could definitely do some bicep curls with this one that’s for sure though it isn’t so heavy that it’s uncomfortable to hold. Looking at a heavy steel toy you might actually think that it could be difficult to insert but the funny thing is it’s probably easier than a lot of the lighter, silicone toys you might be used to. I had noticed when using Ben-wa balls that heavier ones were actually very easy to insert, that the weight actually works with gravity and helps them slide right into place without practically any pushing and the smooth material of a steel toy will only help in that department as well. A tiny bit of lube goes a long way on these toys because they are non-porous so insertion is not a challenge and as I said, there is a smaller side that you can start with if you are still feeling intimidated at all.

Also on the subject of material, steel is fabulous for temperature play and the smooth texture makes it very sensual. It’s also extremely easy to clean and keep hygienic, which as you know is a major plus in a sex toy. If you would like to experiment with a bit of temperature play it is also great for that. The easiest way to change the temperature of you toy is to wet it with cold or warm water. Because it is completely waterproof you can do this without the slightest worry and you can absolutely use it in the bath, shower or spa if that floats your boat. You aren’t restricted with the type of lubes you use with this toy either.
Now the u curve shape of this dildo makes it very easy to hold when masturbating and from what i read and what I’ve found with other curved toys a sort of rocking motion works well for most people, the weight and shape of the rounded ends do the rest of the work. If you have never had a g-spot orgasm, this is reportedly one of the most reliable ways to achieve it. Many women who have used it have also reported their first experience with squirting, so if this is something you’d like to try get to it! Don’t forget to put some towels down if you are playing on the bed, as it can be a surprising amount of liquid that is expelled during female ejaculation. Who wants to worry about cleaning up bedding or mattresses when they’re post orgasmic? Not me, that’s for sure.
If you are playing with a partner you may prefer more of an elongated s shaped g-spot wand and Hell’s Couture do one that fit the bill in that department too. Thanks, Hell’s Couture, you steel sex toys are so thoughtful! The difference when it comes to partner play is that the u shape of the Chrome Crescent is super convenient for self pleasuring but slightly awkward for a partner to use on you, so the s shaped curve gives people a much better grip to hand-hold and the curve on the insert-able side which is the knobby part, is ideal for pleasuring you. It also leaves the clitoris free from obstruction so you can very easily use a clitoris toy or manual stimulation at the same time. The great thing about using separate toys for simultaneous g-spot and clitoris action is you have a lot more flexibility in terms of where you focus and move the stimulation than you would with a rabbit, for example.
I love that these toys are so long lasting and beautiful as well. Whenever you fork out for a vibrating toy there is the knowledge that eventually you will need to replace it. This happened to me recently when I left the battier in a vibrator when I moved house. With steel toys you can be sure that with proper care they can last you a lifetime so you just don’t have to worry about ongoing expense. Or saying goodbye to a toy you’ve become attached to! Both of these toys are also wonderful for anal play as well and you’ve got to love a toy you can get multiple pleasures from.
So why should you buy a steel g spot toy?
  • Durability
  • Effectiveness
  • Hygeinic
  • Easy to use
  • Use any lubrication like Superslyde
  • No charging or battery expense
  • Recommended by sexperts
  • Beautiful
  • Be a little different from the crowd

Medical Play Fetishism

Baci Nurse Costume

The definition of a sexual fetish is the need for an object, body part or material to achieve an elevated state of sexual arousal. Realistically anything can be turned into a fetish; it just depends on a person’s desires and preferences. I’ll be going over one in particular and a few instruments used to achieve heightened sexual arousal, the Medical Play Fetishism.

Medical Play Fetishism is that compulsive desire to explore one another in various ways. Most people grow up feeling scared or ashamed to explore their fetish, it’s not until we grow older and find out that they are not alone and there are hundreds and thousands of others that share a similar interest or fetish. With the Medical Play Fetishism there various medical instruments designed for a certain use then over time eventually became sexualised or used to stimulate and create a heightened sexual experience. These tools range from forceps, gags to percussion hammers and sounding rods. Now, I could spend all day going over every single Medical Play Fetishism but instead I choose 3 sex toys that I found most interesting and curious to investigate.

The first Medical Play Fetishism sex toy out of the trio that I’m going to talk about is the wartenberg wheel. A pinwheel looking device, the wartenberg wheel is a very popular bdsm toy that’s original purpose was to test nerve reactions as it systematically rolled up the skin but it didn’t take long for someone to use this instrument for sexual arousal and stimulation. Looks scary I know but it does what it does best and that create sensation that most people haven’t ever felt before. Depending on how you use the wartenberg wheel depends on the experience and sensation you will have. When used quickly, it can create a ticket sensation and when used slow and hard it can create a more knife-like sensation. Use a blindfold, heat up the toy with warm water or cool down in the freezer, there are many different simple ways you can create new and unique experiences with just this toy and if you combo it with a “violet wand body contact electrode” for entirely new experience all together.

Next on our list is urethral sounds, when I first knew what these were for I was like “hell no, stuff that ” but that was my own naïvety and with some research I found that they have many uses for both medical and sexual purposes. Urethral sounds or sounding rods are used  to go up the male or female urethra, medically they are for measuring and or gradually enlarging the urethra. In BDSM medical scene they can be a source of exceptional sensual stimulation. The rods are curved due to urethra naturally have a slight curve as well. Urethral play is defiantly not something you should engage in without experience or if you don’t understand all the necessary precautions otherwise, your fun can result in infection, injury, or other traumatic problems…… Besides that the pleasure that can be achieved by these toys is incomparable and should not be overlooked.

Last but not least on our list is another enormously popular Medical Play Fetishism device for both males and females in the medical BDSM scene is the speculum. The actual medical application is examination of the rectum or the vagina. Usually, it is made of steel in a duckbill shape with two “jaws” which open with a screw-type mechanism, thus, stretching the opening to give a clear view down the center into the vagina or rectum. There are also plastic disposable variations of speculum. Objects such as swabs can be inserted through the opening into the orifice. It also allows for pouring cool or warm water into the opening, just don’t use ice or water that isn’t too hot.

Using instruments for Medical Play Fetishism comes with its own set of precautions and ways to ensure safe medical play, knowing how to look after and clean your tools will keep them in safe and playable condition. The first recommendation would be to go through an autoclave cycle, this is a medical device designed to sterilise medical/dental/tattoo/piercing equipment. Another alternative would to boil the instruments for a minimum of 15 minutes but for just a everyday clean a simple soapy water solution is also acceptable. When using medical toys you also need to use the right lube, surgilube which is a sterile lube used for surgical equipment is my best recommendation.

Speculums

Rectal Speculum Open Wide

Speculums are an interesting type of sex toy, and are generally for those into medical play. However, just because these are used by doctors does not mean that they should not be used with care, caution and control. This BDSM article will examine speculum use, and whilst they are generally considered a secondary tool to use, such as with restraints, electical stimulation or rope like our last article, speculums can also be a fun tool to use and review without these additions.

First of all, safety first.  Since this type of play can cause stress on the bottom, it’s important that you keep up all forms of communication during play.  If your bottom is blindfolded, or cuffed, or even gagged, work out a system that they can communicate with you. Whether that’s a series of grunts, a particular hand movement or something easily distinguishable from normal play.  With this kind of play, especially if you’re stretching you will need to warm up the muscles first. Lube up a finger, or small toy and insert that and begin by moving that around slowly.  Consider this an integral part of foreplay, and should be for several minutes or until any mild discomfort is gone.  Further, ensure that your steel equipment is completely clean and sterile – more so if you have multiple toy partners.  Steel is fine to use and share, but it needs to be sterlised between partners.  Before using sex toys like this make sure that the place you are putting them is also sterlised, and that, where possible, you wear gloves.

How To Use a Speculum:

  • Clean your hands thoroughly with medical graded hand cleaner and wear safety gloves
  • Always hygienically clean and sanitise speculum’s before and after use. You can clean it with an alchoholic swab. When you are moving a speculum, always keep it on a hygienic surface.
  • In the event that you experience discomfort or pain slowly stop using the speculum. Although it is normal to experience a little discomfort.
  • Insert and change the speculum very gradually, little by little.
  • Lubricate your body very well. You can never use to much lubricant. You can use silicon or water based lubrication.

How To Not Use a Speculum:

  • Do not force a speculum into your body. A speculum should only be used slowley without discomfort.
  • Do not reuse, same lubricant with different lovers.
  • Do not use same speculum with another lover without it being thoroughly sterilised
  • Do not use a sizable or big speculum if you are a beginner.

Graves Vaginal Speculum Sex Toy

Speculum Types:

  • Cusco: The cusco speculum is a small collapsible speculum designed for both anal and vaginal stretching. It is considered to be one of the more comfortable speculums and has nice comfy rounded edges. Because of the lack of length, it’s not suitable for solo play, but if you have a playmate it can be easily locked to keep it in place.
  • Graves: Has a larger bottom curved blade with a shorter top blade.
  • Pederson: Narrow blades like the graves speculum.
  • Miller: A speculum designed for comfort. You are able to control the blades and the angle of the blades. Opens left to right.
  • Collin: A speculum used for a bigger scope for deeper peentration. Opens left to right.
  • Disposable: Speculums used to easily throw away without the need to clean it. Use a new speculum on a new patient each and every time.
  • E-Stim: E-Stim speculums play with electric stimulation. It is an advanced user speculum.
  • Sims: One blade used to hold in secretion for humiliation play.
  • Rigby Wall Retractor: Scissor like speculum for hardcore play.
  • Dartigues Retractor: Two blades curving outwards.
  • Labia Spreader: Speculum intended to help with object insertion.
Surgical Steel Anal Spreader

Anal Speculum Types:

  • Anoscope: The ano scope is a long thin device with a removable centre, Whilst not necessarily for examination without a light, it can be used in humiliation scenes by inserting liquid into the region.
  • Three Prong: The only down side to this one is that if closed internally, if it’s not exactly symmetrical it can cause pinching. With care, this can be avoided and a whole realm of fun can be had! This one is particularly useful for anal play and for direct prostate stimulation. Due to the extra prong, it can increase widening with ease and this allows for deep access as well for every whim and desire.
  • Equine: Three blades to help with object insertion.
  • Proctoscope: Speculum used to easily throw away without the need to clean it. This speculum leaves behind a hollow tube for watersports.
    Anal Spreader:
Scissor like speculum for anal spreading.
